RCO Law Advances Three New Partners

RCO Law is pleased to announce that attorneys Kayla L. Henderson, Marjan Neceski, and Jeff M. Smith have been elected to the Firm's partnership, effective January 1, 2024.

According to RCO Law Managing Partner Peter N. Lavalette, "each of these new partners has established strong ties in their respective business and client communities, while demonstrating consistent levels of excellence in the delivery of legal services for which the Firm is known. The advancement of Kayla, Marjan, and Jeff strengthens RCO Law's commitment to our clients, and extends our presence in the legal community."

Kayla Henderson

Kayla L. Henderson practices in RCO Law's Litigation Practice Group with an emphasis on defending healthcare providers in medical malpractice and professional liability claims ranging from emergency medicine, surgical, and primary care to radiology, cardiology, and obstetrical birth-injury claims. Kayla also assists healthcare clients respond to licensure and privilege investigations, regulatory issues, and other compliance issues.

A native of Toledo, Kayla has been with RCO Law for eight years. She is a magna cum laude graduate of The University of Toledo College of Law. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Ohio Wesleyan University.

Kayla is admitted to practice in Ohio and Michigan Bars, as well as the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, and Ohio's Sixth District Court of Appeals.

Active in her profession, she is vice president of the Toledo Cancer Care Alliance Foundation; Northwest Ohio representative on the Board of Directors for the Society for Ohio Healthcare Attorneys; a member of the Toledo Bar Association (TBA) Board of Trustees, and a leader in the TBA Doctors & Lawyers Committee, and in the TBA Common Pleas Court Committee.

Marjan Neceski

Marjan Neceski is a partner in the Firm's Business & Corporate and Litigation Practice Groups. He joined RCO Law in 2022, bringing over 25 years of significant legal expertise to the Firm working with a wide range of businesses, financial institutions, and transactional entities. His work includes business and corporate transactions; commercial litigation; manufacturer and product defect litigation; declaratory judgment litigation; creditors' rights including collections, bankruptcy, special and managed assets; loan workouts; Article 9 (Uniform Commercial Code Secured Transactions) and security interests; receiverships and foreclosures; business purchases and sales; mergers and acquisitions; insurance coverage litigation; contractor agreements; finance agreements; and real estate transactions.

He is a graduate of The University of Toledo College of Law. Marjan also holds a Master of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Windsor, Windsor, Ontario, and Honors Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario.

He has been admitted to practice law in Ohio, Michigan, and New York, including federal and bankruptcy courts in those states, and in the Province of Ontario, Canada.

Jeff M. Smith is a member of RCO Law’s Litigation Practice Group. He represents business clients in high-stakes commercial litigation matters. Jeff joined RCO Law in 2021.

The depth of his legal experience includes serving as a business and tort litigation attorney for an American Law 50 firm in Ohio. More recently, Jeff served as a law clerk for the Honorable Judge Sara Lioi in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.

Jeff received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and Managing Notes Editor of the Michigan Journal of Environmental and Administrative Law. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Findlay, and a Bachelor’s of Science degree, magna cum laude, from Bowling Green State University.

Jeff's bar admissions include Ohio; the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio; and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Jeff is also active in the legal community. He has served on the Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel for the Northern District of Ohio and is a member of the Advisory Group of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. Jeff is a member of the Wood County Bar Association Executive Committee and is on the Board of Directors for 1859 Mutual.
